The Berkshire Optimist Baseball Club has been organizing quality youth and adult amateur baseball tournaments since 1989.
Committed to excellence, we strive to bring the highest quality of baseball to our area in its purest and most original form, with wooden bats. Regardless of the age level, we strongly believe that wooden bat baseball puts a true emphasis on a hitter’s natural ability. Good hitters excel, average hitters struggle. Defense and pitching win games.
Our tournaments feature “old school”, good old fashioned baseball, the “crack of the bat”, not the “ping” is what we want to hear.
We will again run several high school "Showcase" baseball tournaments in Berks and surrounding counties through October.
For tournaments prior to our Labor Day event, we use an April 30 age cut-off date.
For our Fall showcase events from Labor Day and beyond, players must still be high school eligible to participate.
All of our 18-U tournament events are promoted as "Showcase" tournaments. We will utilize our four local college campus fields in Kutztown University (D-2), Alvernia College (D-3), Albright College (D-3) and Penn State-Berks (D-3). Tours of each campus are available for all participating players throughout the weekend. We ask that coaches please bring an ample supply of printed rosters for the coaches that are in attendence. Obviously, attendence from college coaches and professional scouts varies from event to event, but we do send notice of our tournament schedules to over 250 college coaches and professional scouts in the Mid-Atlantic region.
In the past, our events have drawn teams from the entire Mid-Atlantic region on a regular basis. We have even had teams from as far as California, Colorado and Canada compete.
Rawlings 212B and 232 wood bats can be ordered and shipped to your team in advance through our tournament special of 24 wood bats for only $360.00 plus $16.00 S/H.
Tournament T-Shirts can also be pre-ordered with a credit card via our site, please click the T-Shirt logo to the right to pre-order your shirts.
Tournament brackets will be available on our web site approximately one week prior to the start of the event. Brackets may be available sooner if the tournament is filled sooner.
Lodging information can be obtained through the White Star Travel link below. All teams participating in our events that are in need of lodging are required to book their rooms through White Star Travel. This allows us to better communicate with teams that are staying here for the weekend in the event of inclement weather.
Due to an increasing amount of conventions in the Reading & Berks County area in recent years, hotel rooms in this area are at a premium. Please make your lodging arrangements immediately by contacting Dean Kraras at White Star Travel at 610-775-5000.
